PARSE.insight workshop venue

On 21 and 22 September 2009 PARSE.insight organises a workshop on Preservation, Access and Re-use of Scientific Data. This workshop, to be attended on personal invitation only, will be held in Darmstadt (Germany).

The workshop is a follow-up to the grand scale survey on Digital Preservation carried out several months ago. Based on thousands of responses from stakeholders such as researchers, librarians, publishers and funders/ policymakers, the outcomes of the survey will be explained during this event. Aim of the workshop is to get to actionable steps and helping to determine via interaction between all stakeholders these next steps in the areas of preservation, access and re-use of scientific (in the broadest sense) data. This workshop aims at refining our policy advice to the EU by obtaining the views and ideas of key stakeholders.

One of the key findings in the Parse survey has been a broad recognition of threats to preservation and re-use. A draft Roadmap has been produced which outlines a number of additional components for the e-research infrastructure to counter these threats. An initial analysis has been undertaken to determine the gaps between the ideal situation and what is currently in place or is planned to be in place in the near term. We need to revise the roadmap through feedback from attendees to the workshop, supported by information about the evidence about the threats and details and prototypes about the roadmap components.
